Sadie Roo Coopeasian, 2007-2020. Good dog. |
It is with admiration for a joy-filled life well lived, and gratitude for having shared it with us, that we tearfully announce the end of the Sadie Era, 2007-2020.
A pound puppy who was rejected (happily for us) by her first family, Sadie careened into our life as a larger-than-expected 6-month-old in March 2008. Truthfully, our household was never the same.
She was a large dog, a Chesapeake-Lab mix of large tastes, large feet and large exuberances. Laser-eyed whenever food was even the slightest possibility, she never met a sprinkler or hose she didn’t love, or a cookie she couldn’t swallow whole. She was her mother’s steadfast running and walking buddy for many years, and her constant companion during the too-long period when her father had to work out of state.
She was only 10-1/2 when the vet noticed the tumor in her spleen. Surgery was rejected in favor of making what was expected to be her final six to eight months as comfortable and gluttonous as possible. Happily, Sadie didn’t get the memo that she was doomed, and lasted another 2-1/2 years, pretty much just as happy and goofy as ever right up until this morning.
It is our belief that, when good dogs die, they pop up on a sunny dogbeach somewhere. Sadie’s there now, without the tumor and strong of limb again, frolicking with Lucy and Eddie and Lulu and Shaughnessy and Fang the Wonder Cat, happily chewing kelp and rolling in something disgusting. We hope there are plenty of sprinklers.
Thanks for sharing your life, you big brown doggie dog.
